Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As the designated Prime Chancellor (PC) of Beta Nu, I am presenting to you the schedule of activities where your participation is encouraged:

Alpha Day - August 9 at the Makenter Compound 1, Canelar, ZC
Phi Day - August 23 at the Makenter Compound 2, Padua Drive, Sta Maria, ZC
Omega Day- September 13 at the Makenter Compound 1, Canelar, ZC

Since the Alumni involved in the revival of the chapter agreed that, as a chapter, we will comply with the APP and the Anti-Hazing law, I have designed the following ground rules for your comments:
1. The initiation/training is open to Beta Nu members
2. Only Beta Nu members with renewed IDs will be allowed to participate
3. Visiting Brothers and sisters are welcome, provided:
a. They have valid/renewed IDs
b. They pass the academic exams the chapter will administer
c. They pay an affiliation fee of P 5,000
d. They execute an affidavit duly notarized that they will abide with the APP and the RA 8049, otherwise known as the anti-hazing law.
e. A chapter sticker will be given to them, which will be attached to their ID to identify
them as an accredited trainor.
4. The Prime Chancellor can exercise his judgment in granting OBSERVER STATUS to
visiting brothers or sisters and/or subsequently revoking the privileges of the
accredited trainor or OBSERVER .
5. Designated lawmen, who are not brothers, will be authorized to arrest any erring
brother/sister for violation of the APP and RA 8049 with or without the instructions
of the PC.
6. The entire proceedings will be recorded or video-taped to be used as reference for
whatever legal purposes it may serve.
7. To prevent hi-jacking of pledgees, I have instructed pledgees not to recognize any
brother or sister outside of campus or training area.
8. The pledgees are to report directly to the Police the name of the APO members who
violated them. I have met with the Chief of Police, Supt Amador Corpuz, to
guarantee that follow up operations be made to arrest and apprehend erring
members of APO.
9. A private lawyer, on retainer, will handle the prosecution of these cases.
10. Complaints against implementation of these ground rules may be addressed to the undersigned or to Brother Eddie Cruz, Grand Chancellor.

Subject: APO Workshop-mSession 3

The continuing APO workshop intended to re-invent APO was held again at the Cecille's Restobar in Tumaga last Sunday, July 6, 2008.

The workshop centered on two major modules: First module was on Rekindling APO history through story telling and the second module was centered on leadership through values clarification.

In the first module, each chapter presented the APO history (international, national and local) through story telling and using visual aids to enhance the presentation and increase retention of important events. After the presentations, the resident members were taught techniques, using different visual aids, in presentation with fervor and enthusiasm. Further, data were corrected by the most senior members (alumni) who were present during the workshop.

The second module was more focused on values clarification, both personal and organizational values, and the realignment of these values and the integration of these values to the present objectives and adopting strategies to hasten the weeding out of the "culture of violence" in initiation rites.

The fourth workshop will be held in the same time and venue.

Re: Trainer's Training

Please be informed that APO Zamboanga has launched a Trainor's Training with the Theme: Re-inventing APO: A Paradigm Shift Focused on Engaged Leadership through Service. As expressed by the theme, we aim to re-tool the APO membership so we can again regain our lofty standing in schools, in the community and the nation, as well.

These workshops are also intended to train resident members and interested alumni on how to recruit prospective members and how to train them to be future leaders of the brotherhood as well as the community, without resorting to the traditional way of acceptance which is called "hazing".

Further, these workshops are also intended to synchronize all plans and projects of APO Zamboanga City which includes the alumni chapter and the three resident chapters and to make common link for nationally-based and scouting-based projects.

In view of this, all resident members and alumni still interested to participate in pledge programs are enjoined to attend these workshops. A resident chapter which failed to send representatives to the Trainor's Training shall be deemed suspended indefinitely until such time that attendance in a similar workshop shall be established. This suspension covers opening up of batches in their respective chapters as well as participation in pledge programs in other chapters.

Should a chapter insist on continuing its own programs without the mandated participation in the trainor's training, this office shall not be constraint to elevate this case to the national office for proper sanctions:

Inquiries with regards to these workshops shall be coursed through:

  1. Bro. Cholo Villa -------- Cell# 0926-623-2617

  2. Bro. Frank Maletsky ---  Cell# 0917-722-5609

  3. Sis. Guy Buenvenida --- Cell# 0917-721-2458

  4. Bro. Roger Buenvenida - Cell# 0917-710-8431

A letter from  Roger Buenvenida Beta Nu'69

Dear Frank,

At last, the pet project of the APO Alumni Association of Zamboanga City was able to take off despite the somewhat "strong" opposition from traditionalists. The project was all about the revival of the collegiate chapters in Zamboanga City. For the record, Beta Nu (ADZU) has only 4 resident members, Gamma Zeta (UZ) has 3, Zeta Rho (WMSU) has 10 and Epsilon Zeta (SCC) is dead. In a meeting called by the alumni association chaired by Cholo Villa, it was ascertained that collegiate chapters are dying not because of the absence of idealism but because of the violent and sometimes barbaric methodology in accepting new members into the fold, plus the absence of a comprehensive plan to do service to our community. Hence, upon the approval of majority of the alumni present, this project- "Trainors' Training" was conceived, with the team: Reinventing APO: A Paradigm Shift Focused on Engaged Leadership Through Service. Through a series of meetings, a covenant
was reached by all the representatives of collegiate chapters to do away with hazing as a method in accepting members into the fold of our brotherhood.

During the 1st workshop held at Cecille's Restobar in Tumaga, the attendees were asked 3 simple questions: 1. Where is APO now? 2. What is your vision for APO after the workshop? and 3. What are the strategies to be used to place APO again in its original pedestal.

There and then, a general concept came out that it is really the clinging to our traditional way of initiating through hazing plegees became the number one roadblock to our being able to invite leaders and soon- to- be- leaders in the collegiate ranks. Talented college students shy away from joining APO because of the physical hardship that they are to undergo while in the pledge period.

The second was answered by a simple statement: That we want to bring back the glory days of the fraternity, respected by the studentry and by the community.

The strategies to be adapted are the following: 1. train the resident members on how to recruit members through different methodology, 2. train prospective members in the spirit of leadership, friendship and service through in methods that are attuned to the present times, 3. to conduct worthwhile projects to make known that APO is still a force to reckon with as far as fraternities are concerned, and 4. to conduct projects in partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. Upon reinvigorating the brotherhood, inactive members will again come back and give their share for the advancement of the fraternity.

Before the formal start of the workshop, Bro. Fritzgerald Tan, a lawyer connected with the Civil Service Commission gave a talk on R.A. 8049- the anti hazing law and its corresponding implications and penalties.

During the middle of the workshop, Mr. Arthur Griño, the City Scout Executive gave a short talk on the partnership between APO and the Boys Scouts of the Philippines citing among others that a committee in the Boy Scouts was created- APO/BSP committee whose main function is to act as a conduit between the two organizations. Mr. Griño likewise committed the BSP Hall of the BSP at Pasonanca as open for activities of APO plus the promise of providing resource persons in future leadership and team building workshops and seminars, and a portion in the 60 hectare lot at ECOZONE for tree parenting.

The workshop will continue its workshop on Sunday, June 29 at 1:00PM to be held at the same venue.

Typhoon Frank was at its worst although Zamboanga was not hit hard, it still rained a lot and flooded most of the lowlands. But true to being APO the cookout was still a success. Coconut shells were burnt to create charcoal to roast the fish and everybody interacted. The residents and the alumni got along and the stage was set for next day. Check out the Pictures.

June 19, 2008
The interim president of the Zamboanga alumni chapter called for another meeting today at the request of Frank Maletsky. None of the resident members were invited. Guy Buenvenida BN, Roger Buenvenida BN, Jay Escamillan GZ, Danny Usman (Cebu), Clark Pioquinto ZR, Jerry Solis BN and Frank Maletsky BN were at the meeting. Meeting was held at 6pm at La Cucina Restaurant owned by brother Roger. Talked about the plan for the orientation day (Sunday 1pm June 22, 2008) at Cecile's Restaurant, Tumaga. Sister Guy Buenvenida presented a well thought out plan regarding the training and evaluation of pledges. Frank Maletsky pointed out that during the last meeting with the resident members, the resident brothers and sisters were not relaxed and were sort of intimidated. Most probably due to the fact they do not know the alumni brothers and sisters. So a BBQ get together was planned out and scheduled for 6pm Saturday June 21 at Brod Frank Maletsky's place. The alumni will bring food and drinks and the residents will simply show up enjoy, help in the cooking, halve fun and we can all get to know each other.

June 15, 2008
Guy, Roger, Frank, Danny, Clark, Muz, Cholo the alumni brods who are trying to put together a revival for the apo chapters in Zamboanga City, met with 12 resident apo members of Zamboanga City. There were 8 from Zeta Rho, 3 from beta nu, and 1 from gamma zeta. The meeting was held at the Cecile's Pension House Restaurant in Tumaga owned by brother Danny Usman. The meeting was about reorienting our ways of recruiting and training the recruits or pledges. Again, emphasis was placed on the "no hazing" policy. It was resolved that the revival committee together with all the resident members will go through a refresher course in the training program provided by the national chapter.

June 3, 2008
The group met today with current resident members of the chapters. There were only 6 residents. Four from beta nu and two from zeta rho. A copy of the official National Pledge Program was given to each chapter representative. Each chapter was to review the program and come up with ideas of recruiting.

May 28, 2008
A follow up meeting at Cholo's Garden in Canelar. A flyer was created to be given out to prospective pledges. Also an emphasis was given to the support of this website to provide information to all the alumni brothers and sisters and to the resident members. The discussion of zero tolerance for hazing was brought up and it was unanimous decision that alumni will support the policy for the "zero tolerance towards hazing".

May 23, 2008
Brother Cholo Villa, acting President of the Alumni Association for the Zamboanga City chapters called for a meeting. The meeting was held at Family Fried Chicken in Canelar. Brother Frank Maletsky asked the question as to how many resident members are there in Beta Nu? There were 4 at Beta Nu. Then it was determined that there are only 15 resident members altogether and that is after combining all the chapters in Zamboanga City. Zeta Rho had the most with 8 members and Gamma Zeta with 3 members and none from Epsilon Zeta. Because of this alarming degradation, the group decided to form a revival committee to get the four chapters of Zamboanga City full of active student members again.
