The festival of Banna is celebrated every 1st - 3rd day of April and called it PANAG-ABUOS FESTIVAL. Panag-buos is an Ilocano term which means “time for abuos”.  Abuos is a kind of big ant that lay eggs and it is a delicious exotic food. They live in trees located in the hills and mountains around the town proper as well as in the rural areas.  There are specific trees in the forest where these abuos weave leaves for them to lay eggs. They usually lay eggs occasionally during the month of April.
PANAG-ABUOS FESTIVAL includes variety of activities. Every Saturday of March, there is a singing competition and they called it “Samiweng.”  Samiweng is a local dialect of Banna for love songs. The judges usually come from the different towns, cities or provinces. Among the contestants, there are only five (5) to be chosen for the grand finals. The Grand Finals is being held on the last day of the town fiesta.  The Champion is given the biggest cash prize and tallest trophy while the others receive smaller amount of money and trophy.  This is done after the Coronation Night of Miss/Mrs. Balikbayan and Miss Banna.
On the 1st day of April, there is a Search for Miss/Mrs. Balikbayan which is a popularity contest.  Contestants come from different countries where former native of Banna resides now. They called it Balikbayan Night. Balikbayan is a local dialect used to refer to people from Banna who migrated to different countries who are coming back for vacation.  The contestant who drops the highest amount of money will be the Miss/Mrs. Balikbayan which is called The Queen. Her royal court will compose of First Princess, Second Princess, Third Princess and Fourth Princess. Each will be given a sash, bouquet and trophy during the coronation.
On the 2nd day of April, there is a Search for Miss Banna which is a Beauty and Brain contest.  The lucky candidates will become Miss Banna - The Queen, First Princess, Second Princess, Third Princess and Fourth Princess. Each will receive cash, sash, bouquet and trophy on the coronation night which is being held on the last night of the town fiesta.
During the celebration, they also present the different ethnic dances and their own folk dance –  Surtido Banna and sometimes they sing the folksong- Bannatiran. Bannatiran is a kind of bird which has silky brown feather with dotted white on its breast.
On the last day, the Miss/Mrs. Balikbayan and Miss Banna with their princesses will ride on a float to have their parade around the town proper.  Some of the different candidates will throw candies to the people on the streets who are watching them.
During the festival, they usually sing the Banna Hymn before they start any program to show their love and loyalty to their beloved town.
Every May 2nd of the year, the Summer Sports Fest begins.  This is done every day until the last day of the month. The Championship Game is also held on the last day.. It is held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Banna. Basketball tournament is for men while volleyball is for women. This is sponsored by the municipality of Banna. Awarding Ceremony is held just after the Championship Game where winners will receive cash prizes and trophies.
