MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, March | MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, March 14 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Southern Leyte will closely coordinate with the 19 local government units in the province to assure full participation in the synchronized one hour electric power switch-off. | ||
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) senior staff Eva Abad disclosed to PIA-Maasin about the switching off of electric power from 8:30 p.m. up to 9:30 p.m. of March 13, 2012 in observance of the Earth Hour simultaneously throughout the province. | |||
“The local chief executives were all advised formally through the issuance of a memorandum from Provincial Governor Damian Mercado’s office relative to the energy conservation measures which shall also be observed at the same time throughout the world,” Abad said. | |||
The memorandum further urged the provincial and city employees to participate as they were recommended to act as models in the community in the switch off of electricity during the designated schedule in their respective homes, she added. | |||
On the same day, the provincial government will also spearhead in the synchronized extraction of the crown of thorns starfish (COTS) throughout the province. Other simultaneous massive collection of COTS scheduled activities will be on March 15-22 during the World Water Way observation and the Earth Day celebration on April 22, she said.
