Local entrepreneurs from Marinduque's six towns are availing themselves of a micro-financing program introduced and implemented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Marinduque office.  
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Nov. 21 (PIA) -- Franz Gio M. Mangi, from Marinduque State College, emerged champion in the 20th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) in the MIMAROPA Region held at Provincial Capitol Square last Friday, November 18, 2011.
 
Mangi, 17, is a freshman student taking up Bachelor of Science in Electronics & Communications Engineering. He will represent the MIMAROPA Region in the national level competition on Dec. 6, 2011 at Assembly Hall, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas(BSP), A. Mabini St.,Ermita, Manila.
Under this program loan amounts ranging from P 3,000.00 to P 50,000.00 are provided to qualified beneficiaries currently engaged in small livelihood industries such as production of native delicacies, sari-sari store expansion, handicrafts manufacturing, and trading of Marinduque-made products.  
As regional champion, Mangi received a cash prize of P5,000,Certificate of Recognition & a Trophy. His coach, Engr. Nelson Rufino M. Montejo received P2,500 cash & certificate of recognition plus a trophy for the school he represented.
 
Other winners in the said competition were Isaiah Kent P. Bagatsolon from the Divine Word College of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, 1st Runner-up; and Casandra Ysabel G. Atencio of Palawan State University, 2nd Runner-up. They received a cash prize of P3,000 and P2,000, respectively, plus a certificate of recognition for each one of them.
DTI provincial director Carlito Fabalena explains that the program is also open to new businesses with high market demand. Such loans are subjected to interest rate of 6% per annum, and are payable from three to six months depending on the gestation period. Payments are deposited to DTI Marinduque’s trust account and used as revolving fund.
The contest was participated in by 12 students from the different colleges and universities of the MIMAROPA Region. (Louie T. Cueto/PIA-4B)
 
Chief of Staff, Erick Abad of Cong. Velasco's Office informs that more applicants will be benefited by Tulong Asenso with additional funding from the lawmaker's PDAF.
 
Tulong Asenso checks are releaased by DTI to the borrowers on scheduled dates at the Office of Congressman Allan Velasco. Tulong Asenso para sa Marindukenyo is funded through Velasco’s Priority Development Assistance Fund.
 
Interested applicants to the program are required to fill out and submit application forms together with other requirements such as pictures, mayor’s permit, barangay certification and sketch maps.  
 
Yesterday, 58 beneficiaries from six towns received their individual checks ranging from P. 3,000.00 to Php 50,000.00 at Cong. Velasco’s District Offices in Sta. Cruz and Boac.
