MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte Sep 26 (PIA)-- At least 28 participants throughout Eastern Visayas attended the Training on the Counseling Services for Rehabilitation of Perpetrators of Domestic Violence (CSRPDV) initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DWSD) Field Office 8 at Orcmoc City, September 19-22, 2011. | |||
Fe Nida Sy who was the representative from the City Social Welfare and Development Office here disclosed that the week-long training emphasized the responsibilities of both the victim/survivors and the perpetrators of domestic violence, which is considered as one of the serious problems in the society. | |||
Topics of the said training include Gender Sensitivity, Gender Responsive Case Management, Bayanihan ng Awa at Gawa ni Apo (BAGA), Types of Counseling for the Perpetrators of Domestic Violence, among others, while Lessons from the Masters were also presented by the facilitators from the DSWD, Sy reported. | |||
“Violence can be stopped and abusive behaviors among perpetrators can be reduced only by providing appropriated interventions to the offenders,” Sy quoted Yvonne Abonales, who was one of the speakers, saying that the importance of community involvement and initiative is responding and reducing the incidence of domestic violence are recognized. | |||
There were five phases on case management that were discussed such as: initial supportive response, gender-based assessment process, intervention planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and finally, the closure and follow-up which is an integral part of a continuing process to complete the rehabilitation, Sy said. | |||
Other discussants during the training were Lolta B. Dadap, John Caliguid, Thelma F. Banal, Myrna U. Tan, Leilani Jocano, Anabelle Agner, all Municipal Social Welfare Officers who underwent the Trainors’ Training on CSRPDV in Baguio City. | |||
