CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Feb. 24 (PNA) -– The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is building classroom buildings in various villages in Northern Mindanao that host the power transmission lines, an official said Wednesday.
Beth Ladaga, NGCP spokesperson, said that the project is part of the company's community responsibility program.
NGCP identified the Pedro Molder Elementary School in the village of Cabilinan, Aurora, Zamboanga Del Norte (multi-purpose hall), the Dalama Elementary School in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte (two classrooms) and the Maria Cristina National High School (three-classroom buildings) in Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte as recipients of the projects.
Ladaga said that the projects were to demonstrate the NGCP commitment to help communities in far flung villages where the major transmission lines of the power company pass through.
The village of Cabilinan hosts the NGCP’s Aurora Substation, which provides 138-kilovolt power transmission services to the entire Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental, and parts of Lanao Del Norte.
In Lanao Del Norte, the Balo-I-Aurora 138-kilovolt transmission lines that deliver power supply from Agus 1 and Agus 2 power plants and to the rest of Mindanao is located in the village of Tubod.
Ladaga said that the Maria Cristina in Iligan City is the location of the regional office of the NGCP in Mindanao.“In building infrastructure, we consult the local government and school leaders, and consider the most urgent needs of the public schools,” Ladaga said.
She said that building schools and supporting the public education system, is NGCP's one way of giving back to the host communities as a way of ensuring the future of the youth by providing them with facilities conducive to learning and growth.
