ROSALES, Pangasinan (PIA) - Imagine a plate, eight feet in diameter, loaded with flavored rice and topped with salted eggs and hot ‘tinapa.’ This was the latest product showcased by the local government unit of Rosales right inside the SM City Mall.
Smoked fish or more popularly known as ‘tinapa’ is the One Town, One Product (OTOP) of Rosales, thus the concept of a Tinapa Festival that started four years ago.
And what better way to stage a Tinapa Festival than cooking a giant version and feeding it to the people!
Vice Mayor Harry Bernabe, who represented Mayor Susan Casareno, said the tinapa industry has been the livelihood of people in Rosales for over 50 years now. It started in Barangay Carmen West and has since spread to neighboring towns.
“LGU-Rosales plans to put up a processing center for our famous tinapa product,” Bernabe said during the town fiesta.
SM City Rosales Mall Manager Herald Eleria said the accommodation of the event in the mall is their commitment to support the OTOP of the town and a gesture of thanks for being the host of the said mall.
Eleria expressed his gratitude to the municipal government and vowed to support whatever activities the town will venture into.
The giant tinapa fried rice was made possible with 35 kilos of rice, three kilos of garlic, five kilos of tomatoes, one kilo of toasted garlic, 20 kilos of onion, 100 pieces of salted eggs, and 600 pieces of the famed Rosales tinapa.
The recipe was cooked by the Barangay Service Point Officers from the 37 villages of the town, Some 700 people partook of the tinapa rice at SM’s event center.
