Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Communist leaders’ arrest weaken insurgency, says military official

By Dominic I. Sanchez

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday said that the decades-old communist insurgency has been weakened by the arrest of Leonardo D. Jacotin and Rosario D. Tabanao, who are believed to have taken over the top leadership of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the New People’s Army.

Jacotin, logistics officer, and Tabanao, finance officer of the WMRPC (CPP-NPA), were arrested by virtue of a search warrant served by composite elements of the Joint Task Force ZamPelan and the Philippine National Police, at their residence in Barangay Balangasan, this city on November 18.

Seized from the NPA leaders were a Caliber .45 pistol with eight live rounds of ammunition, 50 rounds of ammunition for AK47, a hand grenade, 10 identification cards, and 17 cellular phones.

In a press conference, LtCol. Virgilio Hamos, Jr., commanding officer of the 53rd (Matapat) Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army said that the arrest of the top communist leaders have weakened the WMRPC leadership.

“How can the WMRPC move if the persons in charge of providing ammunitions and money were arrested? Generally, it will affect their organization,” Hamos said.

Asked if the military is expecting retaliation by the communist rebels for their leaders’ arrest, Hamos said that they have not received any reports of retaliation efforts, however, they are prepared for it.

“Huwag kayong matakot dahil ang 53rd IB, 102nd Brigade at 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division ay handang mag-secure sa inyo 24 hours a day. Let us live peacefully,” Hamos assured.

After President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he abandoned the peace talks with the communist group, Hamos said his troops have been conducting military offensive operations in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte to prevent them in doing hostilities and harming innocent civilians.

Hamos called on the rest of the CPP-NPA members to surrender their arms, abandon the armed struggle and return to the folds of the law and join the government in bringing peace and development to our nation.

2 Reds nabbed in Pagadian, 4 cops hurt in Antique, Ecija clashes

By Alfred Dalizon, Steve A. Gosuico & Zaida Delos Reyes-Palanca

TWO leaders of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested in Western Mindanao while four policemen were wounded in separate clashes in Anitque and Nueva Ecija, police reported Thursday (November 21).

Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spokesman Capt. Jo-Ann D. Petinglay the other day identified those arrested as Leonardo Decena Jacotin and Rosario Delambaca Tabanao.

The rebels were arrested by elements of Joint Task Force ZamPelan and Philippine National Police (PN) based on a warrant of arrest in their residence in Bgy. Balangasan, Pagadian City, at 9:45 p.m.

Recovered from their possession were a cal. .45 pistol with eight live ammunition, 50 rounds of ammunition for AK47, a hand grenade, 10 identification cards and 17 cellphones.

Police said Jacotin is the logistic and head of the Ordnance and Explosives unit of the Western Min-danao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC). He is involved in large-scale extortion activities and dealing of illegal firearms and explosives.

Tabanao is an executive commission member of the WMRPC/Regional Finance and Sub-Finance KOMMID in Pagadian City.

She is involved in robbery and extortion, series of murder cases and dealing of illegal firearms and explosives.

Tabanao, on the other hand, has an existing arrest warrant for the complex crime of direct assault with murder and robbery using unlicensed firearms.

Meanwhile, in Zamboanga Sibugay, government forces recovered assorted war materiel shortly after a combat operation in Bgys. Tigbangagan and Palinta Kabasalan.

Troops earlier received reports that the rebels were seen in the area at around 3 a.m. on Sunday that prompted them to conduct an operation.

However, when the rebels saw the soldiers, they fled towards unknown direction and abandoned their things.

During the clearing operation, troops recovered an M203 grenade launcher, a 7.62 mm sniper rifle, nine rounds of 40M203 ammunition, 60 rounds of M14 ammunition, four M14 magazines, a black bandoleer and a rifle grenade.

The recovered firearms and war materiel were brought by the troops to the 44th IB headquarters for documentation prior its turnover to the PNP.

In Antique, fighting erupted between a group of patrolling policemen and heavily-armed NPA guerrillas in Sibalom, early morning yesterday, resulting in injuries to two officers, a Police Regional Office 6 report said.

PO3s Michael Alejo and Salvador Cordero were hit by bullets in the hand and arm, respectively, and were taken by their colleagues to Sibalom District Hospital.

The PRO6 said that the two were among the 14 members of the Sibalom Municipal Police Station led by SPO4 Ricky Encina who were on patrol in Bgys. Bulalacao, Calooy and Tulatula, when they encountered the rebels in Bgy. Bunto at 9:10 a.m.

The ensuing gunbattle led to the wounding of the two policemen and an undetermined number of casualties on the side of the gunmen.

In Nueva Ecija, two policemen were wounded when responding lawmen clashed with an undetermined number of suspected communist rebels already prepositioned in the area in this mountain town yesterday morning.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Eliseo T. Tan-ding said the encounter occurred after members of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Public Safety Company and the local police responded to a shooting incident in Bgy. Putlan that was reported to authorities at 6:30 a.m. yesterday.

Tanding said the advance team of policemen was suddenly met by a volley of gunfire from the group of rebels in the area.

This triggered a fierce firefight which left two unidentified policemen wounded. They were rushed to the hospital.

“Dalawa po ang may tama sa tropa natin, okay na daw po naisugod na sa ospital,” Senior Insp. Robert B. de Guzman, town police commander, told this reporter yesterday.

“Padating na ang tropa sa may boundary ng Bgys. Piut at Putlan nang pau-lanan ng bala ang tropa ng mga taong labas na nakapuwesto sa itaas, naka-ambush position na sila at may sniper pa,” De Guzman said.

He said the responding lawmen were lucky to survive the ambush because they were able to immediately take cover behind a shallow trench in the area. This latest clash between government forces and the NPAs in Nueva Ecija came a day after President Duterte announced on Tuesday the cancellation of peace talks with the communist rebels.

Taking away of LCEs police powers clarified

By Joel dela Torre

THE National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) yesterday clarified that the grounds for withdrawing the police powers of certain local chief executives (LCEs) were “not all drug-related.”

According to NAPOLCOM vice chairman and executive officer Rogelio Casurao, while the most common reason why an LCE was stripped of his police deputation in connection with the fight against illegal drugs, there are other “specific and detailed grounds” for the action.

The clarification came after a query from Rep. Aurora E. Cerilles of the 2nd Congressional District of Zamboanga del Sur whose husband, Gov. Antonio Cerilles from the same province, was among those whose deputation was withdrawn.

“The resolutions from the NAPOLCOM were clear, as they stated the basis for the withdrawal of the deputation powers of the local officials. It was not solely about drug-related issues,” Casurao said.

NAPOLCOM resolution no. 2017- 571 cited that the grounds for the withdrawal of deputation for Governor Cerilles was the “receipt of a confidential report outlining the abuse of authority committed” by the official.

DILG OIC and concurrent NAPOLCOM Chair Catalino S. Cuy reiterated that indeed, there are “various grounds for the withdrawal (of deputation)”.

“The public must be made aware that the confidential reports which formed the basis for the withdrawal of deputation were gathered by different intelligence agencies, thereby giving them a high degree of reliability,” Cuy stated.

He added that there are other actions that can be committed by local chief executives that may warrant the suspension of their power over the police, and it is not just confined to drugs or abuse of authority.

Some of these grounds, according to Cuy include: “Frequent unauthorized absences, providing material support to criminal elements or engaging in acts inimical to national security or which negate the effectiveness of the peace and order campaign”.

OWWA-9 conducts information caravan in Zambo Sur

By Alma L. Tingcang (ALT-PIA9/Zamboanga Sibugay)

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) -- To assure continuing benefits to our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in far flung areas, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) IX recently conducted an information caravan in the municipalities of Pitogo, Labangan and Kumalarang.

A team headed by Regional Director Hassan Gabra T. Jumdain, BalikPinas!BalikHanapbuhay! (BPBH) Focal Person Deogracias P. Budlong Jr., Labor Communications Officer Aimee Rose Belle S. Tan and Admin Aide Manolo Gallebo travelled to these three municipalities in Zamboanga del Sur to conduct information drive on the programs and services of OWWA.

The participants engaged in lengthy discussions with panelists led by RD Jumdain and an open forum ensued to further acquaint beneficiaries of OWWA services and benefits. Members of the Sangguniang Bayan also attended the event to lend support to our modern day heroes.

RD Jumdain encouraged the OFWs to organize themselves into OFW Family Circles (OFCs) in view of the prospective program dubbed Tulong Puso, because most of the OFWs were no longer qualified for the advertised livelihood programs.

A big turnout of attendees numbering 400 gathered at the municipal covered court in Labangan where institutional videos/briefers about OWWA were shown - its existence, mission and key values.

“There is no place like home,” RD Jumdain said that after recalling his experience working abroad for almost two decades. He shared that one can travel and work around the globe and enjoy the different cultures and experience things that cannot be found in your hometown, yet nothing can defeat the joy of being in your own country with your family.

Family Welfare Officer Maricris S. Abastas was introduced to the participants as the OWWA representative duly assigned in Zamboanga del Sur. Those who could not afford to travel all the way to the Regional Welfare Office of OWWA in Zamboanga City can instead visit the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) office in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur and look for FWO Abastas. Further, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers and OFW Family Circles (OFC) leaders are also present in municipalities to help bridge the OFWs to OWWA.

OWWA RWO-IX is grateful to the local chief executives in Zamboanga del Sur for continuously supporting its advocacies and for helping the former bring its programs and services closer to the OFWs. OWWA RWO-IX strives to conduct more information caravans in the coming year to continue reaching out to deserving OFWs and their families.
