  • China awaits Aquino state visitAquino called grandson of Fujian

MANILA, Philippines — Amid tensions over the Spratlys issue, the People’s Republic of China is yearning for a visit of President Aquino, saying that it is awaiting the homecoming of its “grandson.”
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao told the President last Saturday how “Chinese leaders and people are looking forward to meeting a new Filipino friend.”
Liu and Aquino attended the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) joint celebration of the 113th Philippine Independence Day, the 150th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, 36th Anniversary of the Philippines-China Diplomatic Relations, and the 10th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day last Saturday night at the Fiesta Pavilion of the historic landmark Manila Hotel.
“Our two countries share a blood link that goes beyond our diplomatic ties,” Liu said, pointing out to Aquino that his late mother, former President Corazon Aquino, traced her roots to Fujian, China.....Full Story »

  • DepEd to go after fee-collecting school execs

MANILA, Philippines – Despite the repeated reminders to school officials on non-collection of fees from students, the Department of Education (DepEd) continuously receive complaints from parents on the issue of fee collection.
Consequently, Education Secretary Armin Luistro has called on parents to go to DepEd's Central Office in Pasig City to file their formal complaint against the concerned school officials.
