ILOILO CITY – For the first time, the province of Guimaras has provided a venue for "bangus" or milkfish growers in the municipality of Sibunag to showcase their produce through the one-day Bangus Fair that was held at the provincial capitol grounds on Friday. Guimaras Governor JC Rahman Nava, in his message during the program, said bangus growing is a promising industry in the town, which started even without intervention from the government. To provide further support to the sector, he said they intend to establish an agri-fishery industrial village in Barangay Sapal in the nearby town of San Lorenzo to come up with a feed mill not only for livestock and poultry but also for aquaculture, particularly the bangus industry.
CEBU CITY – Mayor Michael Rama on Monday reassured city residents here that it is business as usual at the Cebu City Hall despite the plunder charges faced by three department heads and three other employees in line with a questionable PHP239.7-million garbage collection contract. Rama said he will implement a reshuffling in city hall in light of the filing of criminal and administrative charges by the National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI-7) against some of his personnel. He advised the personnel who were named in the criminal and administrative charges filed before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas to go on leave of absence while preparing for their defenses.

CEBU CITY – More "balikbayans" or vacationing Filipinos are coming home to Cebu from the United States this holiday season, with passenger traffic almost nearing the pre-pandemic level, a US-based travel consolidator said on Friday. Peter Vazan, chief executive officer of Trevolution Group, said research on winter holiday season booking trends indicated that the number of travel reservations made between the United States and Cebu in December 2022 and January 2023 has so far reached 70 percent of the reservations made during the same period in 2019-2020.
DUMAGUETE CITY – Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel in Negros Oriental will face stiff sanctions if caught indiscriminately firing or irresponsibly using their guns during the holiday season, particularly on New Year’s Eve. Provincial police director Col. Reynaldo Lizardo said in a media interview on Monday there is no directive this year for the cops to tape the muzzle of their issued firearms during New Year’s Eve as a method of determining whether a gun was fired or not.
