PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will give scholarship grants to high school and college students in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.

In a Comprehensive Reform and Development Agenda (CRDA) Summit held recently at Springland Resort here, TESDA Secretary Guiling Mamondiong said that a total of 30,000 scholarship grants are allocated for region 9.

The scholarship program is part of the CRDA of the administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, which seeks to uplift the living condition of the people in Mindanao particularly in regions 9, 10, and 12.

Mamondiong said the president has instructed him to formulate comprehensive reforms and development agenda for the ARMM and conflict- affected areas in the three regions to restore peace and order.

“This is the first time that a huge number of scholarships has been granted by TESDA to students in armed conflict affected areas,” Mamondiong proudly announced.

The program is also CHED’s commitment and support to the action plan being set forth by President Duterte’s administration in improving the economic condition of conflict-affected areas under the CRDA.

Mamondiong added that the scholarship grant aims to contribute to the national government’s thrusts in effectively addressing poverty alleviation by increasing the number of graduates in higher education.

“I believe that this is a long-term solution and commitment to break the vicious poverty cycle afflicting the poor but deserving Filipino youth and their families,” he added.

He already talked to officials of the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Ipil and Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay and informed them that TESDA will be tapping their schools to make sure that they will be able to accommodate those who need skills training.
