Sta. Lucia NHS wins Pasalamat ritual showdown competition

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – Thirteen public secondary schools in the city vied for this year’s Pasalamat Festival competition in various categories, namely: Street Dancing, Ritual Showdown, and Festival Queen.

The streets of Pagadian on Sunday were filled with vibrant colors and dancers swayed to the sound of trumpets and beat of drums, as they joyfully chanted, “Viva! Senyor Sto. Niño! Pit Senyor!” in honor of Pagadian’s patron saint, Sr. Sto. Niño.

The afternoon rain did not stop the performers as they energetically danced in the concrete pavements leading to Plaza Luz where they battled it out to win the grand prize and to entertain locals and tourists.

For the street dancing competition, Pagadian City Science High School won the first place with P100,000 cash prize, the Zamboanga del Sur National High School (San Pedro Annex) bagged the second prize - P75,000, while Napolan National High School finished third with P50,000.

Sta. Lucia National High School bagged the first prize in the ritual showdown competition with P200,000 , the Pagadian City Science High School finished second with P100,000, and Co Tek Chun National High School bagged the third place with P75,000.

The winners received also trophies, while the non-lucky contingents received consolation prize.

Sheila Mae Navaro, 18 years old of Co Tek Chun National High School was proclaimed as this year’s Festival Queen 2017.
