*article below from the LGU of Alaminos - Verbatim:
During the Spanish regime most parts of Western Pangasinan, including Alos, were parts of the province of Zambales. Alos at that time was known as Sta. Isabela, a pueblo (Spanish for “town”) whose seat of government is situated in what is known now as Tangcarang. The heads of the cabezas (Barangay) were chosen among from the more prominent residents of the place—the Valdezes, Solivens, Quitanias, Villaruzes, and Barillas.
During the American regime, the boundaries of the province were redefined and the towns in the Wild West (as Western Pangasinan was described then) were ceded to Pangasinan and Alos was relegated to a Barangay of the Municipality of Alaminos, comprising sitios Tangcarang, Linmansangan, Macatiw, Manga, Quibuar and Maaoi (Maawi).
Alos proper was divided into Alos Sur and Alos Norte. Years later, the first five sitios mentioned separated as independent Barangays. Alos was left with Maaoi as its only one sitio. Nevertheless, it stood by itself as a newly created Barangay. And for the original hectarage, it was left with a three-kilometer stretch along the national highway, mainly a residential area half a kilometer wide.
Ecumenically, however, Alos was a part of the Parish of Sto. Niño, Mabini, Pangasinan. It was then called Balingkaging. Once a week on Sundays, the parish priest offered mass in the old church. And on the other Sundays, if he can spare his time, he will go to other places where his service is needed. Church records were kept in that parish until 1969 when in answer to the clamor of the residents of Alos, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan granted the establishment of the parish of St. Mark the Evangelist in condition that a new church will be built and the pastor will partly be financially supported by the residents. The people took up the challenge, led by (Mrs.) Bruna C. Valdez, a Protestant by religion. A new building of modern architectural designed replaced the old dilapidated church.
Complementing the church is a separate convent which served as the pastor’s residence. The first pastor assigned was Rev. Fr. Asterio Duque of Dagupan City.
