CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Jan. 20 (PIA) -- The growing number of informal settlers in Calapan City will soon be addressed now that the city government has identified places that will serve as their relocation sites. | |||
In an interview with Mayor Doy C. Leachon, he said that barangays Bulalo and Lumangbayan are now being prepared to become the permanent residences of the informal settlers. | |||
The city is now a booming metropolis and there are families who are still occupying and living along the river banks of San Vicente. The lives of these individuals are at stake especially during the occurrence of high tides and floods in the area. | |||
According to Leachon, the city government is really true to its mission of supporting Calapeños under the flagship program of his administration, “Ang Bagong Calapan.” The program has four components. The resettlement project falls under the component “Mapagkalingang Pamamahala.” Once ready, the sites will be able to accommodate 300 families from the informal settlers.
