CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali cancelled the annual Governor's Ball today, and instead donated P1 million for the victims of Tropical Storm Sendong in Mindanao. | |||
Umali said they decided to divert a total of P1 million funds of the provincial government to help the families of the more than 1,000 people who died on the recent devastation in Mindanao. | |||
“We will no longer do partying here while there are people in other places who are mourning,” said Umali. | |||
The amount will be equally apportioned as financial assistance to the provincial governments of Misamis Oriental and Lanao Del Norte. | |||
Umali said he is still looking for other donors as additional support of the province to all typhoon victims. | |||
The “Governor’s Ball" here is an annual thanksgiving party being held traditionally for more than 50 years now | |||
