CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, November 22 (PIA) -- A total of 27 farmers has graduated from the Farmer’s Field School in barangay Managpi, a project of the City Agricultural Services Department.

The school aimed to educate farmers with conventional and modern palay planting techniques which include the right preparation of the planting site, the palay variety to choose from, proper ways of applying fertilizers, application of pesticides and identification of insects that help the plants grow.

City Agriculturist Carlos Domingo shared his knowledge on post harvesting to prevent wastage especially when calamity occurs Her also gave an overview of the Palay check system.

Provincial Agriculturist Petronilo Dimailig and Agriculturist Nilda Cabatay of CASD challenged the

participants to apply the knowledge they learned from the training.

City Mayor Doy Leachon, in his message to the graduates, said that farmers must be updated on the latest trends of farming in their respective areas for them to be successful and thus uplift their living condition even as he gave emphasis on the competitive and sustainable agriculture program outlined in the Philippine Development Plan of 2011-2016.
