CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro —A 105 mm bomb, described to be vintage but live, was recovered by police Friday morning near an oil depot in the coastal village of Lazareto in this city. | |||
Superintendent Christopher Abecia, Calapan police chief, said explosive ordnance experts retrieved the bomb after villagers reported their find to their local officials. | |||
Abecia said the bomb was brought to the Mimaropa (Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan) Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) headquarters, in Barangay (village) Suqui here, for disposal by the EOD. | |||
RPSB deputy group director Chief Inspector Nolie Asuncion said the bomb has been emitting smoke believed to have been caused by a leakage of phosphorous materials. | |||
Superintendent Ronaldo de Jesus, head of the RPSB in Mimaropa, said Chief Superintendent Artemio Hicban, the police regional director, has been informed that the bomb was temporarily deposited at the ammunition dump behind the firing range of the regional police headquarter before its disposal. | |||
