A SCHOOL official of Japanese descent was killed while his grandson was critically wounded in a gun attack by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Wednesday, October 26.

Superintendent Michael Palermo, Pagadian City police chief, identified the slain school official as Elmey Yukoya, 64 and wounded was Yoriko Montejo, nine, Yukoya’s grandson.

Yukoya is the Dean of Graduate School and one of the stockholders of the Southern Mindanao College (SMC).

Yukoya’s wife, Santa, 64, and granddaughter, Tisha, 11, who were with him escaped unscathed in the incident that took place at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, along Rizal Avenue in the village of Balangasan, Pagadian City.

Palermo said the victims were aboard a sports utility vehicle driven by Yukoya when repeatedly shot by one of two men riding tandem in a motorcycle that tailed them.

Palermo said the attending physician declared Yukoya dead on arrival while his grandson is in critical condition.

Palermo has ordered the conduct of a thorough probe over the incident to unmask and arrest the gun attackers.
