The ARMM (Bangsamoro) region is in the southern part of the Philippines. Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or ARMM was created on August 1, 1989 through Republic Act No. 6734 otherwise known as the Organic Act. Later the RA 9054 of 2001.

It is listed here as one of the 17 regions of the Philippines. However, this region is autonomous and governs itself and not by the Philippine government. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) (who "Assist the President in the exercise of general supervision over local governments")has no power over the ARMM (Bangsamoro). It has 5 provinces, 2 cities, 116 municipalities, and 2,490 barangays.

The creation of the ARMM (Bangsamoro) violated the constitution of the Philippines, specifically the "separation of church and state". The region ARMM was created for the Muslims who are the followers of religion of Islam.

BARMM pushes livelihood for ‘productive’ communities

COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MAFAR-BARMM) is pushing for a productive Rural Improvement Club (RIC) in Marogong, Lanao del Sur, by providing them a month-long livelihood training program on raising vegetables in their backyards.

Anisa Socor, municipal cooperative development officer of Marogong, said that the activity is in line with the National Nutrition Month celebration in partnership with the MAFAR-BARMM provincial office and the municipal agriculture office.

Socor said members of RICs in Marogong were provided vegetable production training at the Sultan Magedala Memorial National High School in Marogong town.

“A total of 79 women, mostly mothers, from Barangays Cahera and Cairantana have so far benefited from the training,” Socor said in a statement Monday.

She added that the participants were trained on how to create and maintain a backyard garden so the food that they take are nutritious and organic and free from chemicals.

Socor said that after the training period, all participants would be given assorted vegetable seeds as startup packages for their vegetable gardens.

Aside from Lanao del Sur, the MAFAR-BARMM intends to sustain the program in other parts of the region that also includes the provinces of Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Basilan, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, and the 63 villages in six towns of North Cotabato.
