PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- The municipal government of El Nido in this province announced on Monday that it will be temporarily closing some of its island and beach destinations to give way for the shooting of a reality television show.

In a memorandum order issued on January 19, Mayor Nieves Rosento said: “El Nido was chosen as the main shooting venue for the TV show Survivor South Africa.”

“This will be a great avenue to show the world the exceptional beauty of El Nido,” she said.

Rosento said the 14-day shooting requires a minimal crowd of the sixth season of Survivor South Africa, hence the need for the short-term closure of some of El Nido’s tourist-frequented islands and beaches, including the famed Big and Secret lagoons.

Other shooting sites will be the Sandbar, Papaya Beach, and Pinagbuyutan Island.

These attractions will be closed to tourists on the days of the filming, some days from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and other days from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the schedule, the first shooting was held on Sunday at the Big Lagoon.
