Based on the Provincial Consolidated Report on Voters Registration Output, Palawan has recorded a running total of 1,066 new registered voters a week after the resumption of voter’s registration in the province, specifically from November 7 to 12, 2016. Despite such relatively high turn-out, however, some municipalities did not record any new registrants, such as Cagayancillo, Kalayaan and Linapacan.

“Mapapansin po sa data na may ilang munisipyong wala pang pumupunta para magparehistro. Kadalasan ito ang mga island municipalities kung saan ang populasyon ay usually talagang mga naninirahan lamang doon at bihira ang naggagaling sa ibang lugar,” said Jomel Ordas, Spokesperson of Provincial Comelec.

Ordas further noted that based on the consolidated report as of November 12, Saturday, there were only 12 new registered voters out of the 23 municipalities and Puerto Princesa City.

Relatedly, Comelec called the attention of the public to register as early as possible and avoid the “manana habit”. The continuation of registration for voters participating in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections started on November 7 and will end on April 29, 2017. Registrations are conducted during weekdays only.

Comelec Resolution 10166, promulgated on October 25, 2016, which states compliance to Section 8 of the Voter’s Registration Act of 1996, that is, “the personal filing of application of registration of voters shall be conducted daily in the Office of the Election Officer during regular office hours. No registration, however, be conducted during the period starting 120 days before a regular election and 90 days before a special election.”

The Barangay and SK Elections are set on October 23, 2017.
