PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, July 2 (PNA) -– The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is conducting a series of activities in line with the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month.

CDRRMO head Haron Damada said Thursday the activities include trainings and earthquake drills in the barangay level as well as in high-risk and calamity prone areas of this city.

Damada urged the barangay officials and other concerned stakeholders to support the month-long activities to strengthen disaster preparedness.

The kick-off program of the National Disaster Consciousness Month was held on Wednesday alongside with the observance of the Blood Donors Month.

The kick-off activities, which started with a motorcade, were joined by the cadets of the Reserve Officer Training Corps from different schools, Non-Government Organizations and Civil Society Organizations, policemen, soldiers and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) volunteers.

Meanwhile, Mayor Romeo Pulmones urged the residents during the kick-off program to support the city government’s waste management program through the segregation of bio-degradable and non-biodegradable garbage.

Pulmones said the city government has implemented the “no segregation, no collection” policy to ensure compliance with the city government’s waste management program.

Pulmones ordered the chairmen of this city’s 54 barangays to establish their respective material recovery facility.
