A total of 33 students of different nationalities – Vietnamese, Filipino, Japanese, Cambodian, Tanzanian, Ethiopian, Burmese, Indonesian and Chinese – under the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program (NUGELP) of Nagoya University in Japan have visited Palawan from October 23-27 as part of their 2016 NUGELP International tour.
The PCSD Staff welcomed the said delegation to the Palawan Sustainable Development Training Institute (PSDTI) in Barangay Irawan, Puerto Princesa City, wherein they were given an overview of the Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan Act (R.A. 7611). The students also grabbed the opportunity to visit the Zero Carbon Resorts Project cottage which stands beside the PSDTI.
This study tour aims to learn about the collaborative efforts of government and private companies in the province and the Philippines, in the quest for sustainable development,” said Professor Hiroki Tanawa, Program Leader of NUGELP.
The NUGELP of Nagoya University is focused on developing environmental experts out of students from Asia and Africa, who are capable of evaluating and proposing practical measures to address environmental problems from a global and holistic perspective, according to Tanawa.
To achieve this goal, Tanawa added, aside from learning gained from the university, domestic and international study tours are held every year to provide actual experiences and broad perspectives to the students.
During the Palawan study tour, the group went to the Puerto Princesa Underground River, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation in Bgy. Rio Tuba, Bataraza town as part of their itinerary.
