PAGADIAN CITY (PIA) – The Molave Municipal Police Station recently received an award for having the most number of drug pushers and users who surrendered during the operation of “Oplan Tokhang” from July to September 2016.

No less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself handed the award to Police Senior Inspector Herminigildo Bajao, Jr., acting chief of police in simple recognition rites held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office 9, Camp Abendan, Mercedes, Zamboanga City on Monday (October 10).

During the event, President Duterte cited the accomplishments of the police in its intensified anti-drug drive in the country.

“I am very pleased and thankful to receive this award. The award is an important impetus for us to continue our efforts to stop the illegal drug trade in our country,” Bajao proudly said.

Bajao received a plaque of appreciation and P250,000 as their prize.

He said with the PNP’s implementation of Oplan Tokhang, their unit was able to convince 1,700 drug users and pushers to surrender to authorities, the highest number of self-confessed surrenderees of all PNP units in the region.

The police chief considered their information dissemination of Oplan Tokhang as very effective, including daily barangay visitation, “pulong-pulong” sa barangay, drug symposia and distribution of IEC materials on the ill-effects of drugs and safety tips.

“The drug awareness campaign that we are conducting seeks to educate the general public on the harmful effects of illegal drugs specifically the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu,” Bajao explaned.

“With the implementation of Oplan Tokhang, the crime incidence on theft, hold-ups, and other lawless acts were reduced in our municipality,” Bajao said adding that 70% of the crimes committed are drug-related.

Meanwhile, Supt. James Turbela, deputy provincial director for operations commended the Molave MPS for garnering the award.

“I congratulate you for having succeeded in convincing those involved in illegal drugs to surrender. I hope that the award that you garnered will serve as inspiration for other PNP units to work doubly hard to achieve our common goal of becoming a peaceful and drug-free country,” Turbela said.

Turbela also encouraged the PNP personnel to continue supporting President Duterte’s fight against criminality and drugs.

Among those who received awards were the Zamboanga City Police Station 11 for having most number of arrests and police operations, Kabasalan Police Station for having the most number of neutralized high valued targets, and Ayala Police Station for having the most number of recovered firearms, illegal drugs and paraphernalia during the first 3 months implementation of Project Tokhang.
