CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The 13-episode anime Charlotte has accorded a few minutes of fame to Fields Avenue (now The Walking Street) as scenes from the iconic district were shown in the last episode of the anime.
Charlotte’s episode 13 showed main protagonist Yuu as he journeys to the Philippines, particularly in Angeles City.
The anime showed Fields Avenue’s bar establishments. The anime also showed slum scenes and Kapampangan characters.
Blogger Candy Chan has branded the depiction as “deadly accurate.” Although quite detailed the anime version of Walking Street still looks a lot cleaner than in real life, Chan added.
“Japanese anime are known to take real-life locations but most often than not, the events happen in Japan, so when we see the Philippines get featured in an anime, and does it in a way that is ultra-realistic, we flip,” Chan said in her September 29 post.
Chan said that it is not the first time that the Philippines was featured in a Japanese anime.
Chan said Manila and Siquijor have appeared in the Marvel Anime Blade, the City of Makati has appeared in Jormungand, Subic Naval Base has appeared in Eureka Seven AO, and Alimango Island has appeared in Fate/Zero.
The recent episode of Charlotte featuring Angeles City has been circulating among local anime fans.
