Dietary supplement is a product that contains vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and/or other ingredients intended to supplement the diet. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has special labeling requirements for dietary supplements and treats them as foods, not drugs.

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements and dietary ingredients are prohibited from marketing products that are adulterated or misbranded. That means that these firms are responsible for evaluating the safety and labeling of their products before marketing to ensure that they meet all the requirements of DSHEA and FDA regulations.

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

Guimaras Province, Philippines
Guimaras is the youngest and smallest of the six component island provinces of the Western Visayas Region (Region 6). Known as the "Mango Country", Guimaras Island has 8,000 hectares of mango orchards managed by corporations and individual growers. The province's mango orchards produce the best mango variety certified as pest-free by the United States Department of Agriculture. Declared as a full-pledged province on May 22,1992, Guimaras has also been proclaimed as the "island to watch" due to unspoiled natural beauty as for its potential.

The province is composed of five municipalities, namely: Jordan, the provincial capital; Buenavista; Nueva Valencia; and the newly created Sibunag and San Lorenzo. Guimaras occupies about 3% of the region's total land area.

The fastest route to the province is by means of a pump boat which is about 10-15 minutes ride from Iloilo City.

History of Guimaras, Philippines

article from the provincial government of Guimaras: guimaras.gov.ph

An account by Demy Sonza, a noted Ilonggo historian says that archeologists believed that Guimaras Island was once a part of the Panay Island. Geologically speaking, the two islands are of the same age. Insofar as available historical documents can attest, the Pre-Spanish Ilonggos knew Guimaras as Himal-us. During the Spanish Era, the beautiful sceneries in the island struck the Spaniards headed by Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñalosa who established the Spanish settlement in Arevalo. The verdant mountains of the island were covered with forest timbers for building purposes. The island is rich in limestone and has also has excellent hunting and fishing grounds.

The Christianization of the people of Guimaras started almost simultaneously with that of Iloilo. For this purpose, the Spaniards organized the pueblocitos or villages of Nayup with San Pedro Apostol as the patron saint and Igang whose patron saint was Santa Ana. For a long time, these small villages formed a “visita” of Oton, Iloilo. The Governor at that time, General Dasmariñas reported to the King of Spain on June 20, 1551 and that one of the two friars of Oton was assigned to Guimaras who made his visits from time to time.

According to Don Pedro Armengol, an Ambasador of Spain wrote that a Spanish missionary may have named the island after a peninsula in Portugal called Guimaraes, or from names of places in Spain such as Guimaran in the provinces of Leon and Galeria, Guimera in Catalonia, Gomera in the Canary Islands, and Guimaras in another province.

In 1742, the island fell under the jurisdiction of Dumangas until 1751 when the Jesuits replaced the Augustinian Order. Then the Dominicans took over Guimaras. By 1755, it was organized into a regular parish. Finally, when the population had increased considerably, the island was given its municipal status with a seat of government at Tilad, now Buenavista. The old town site was in the place known today as Old Poblacion.

The American regime brought more rapid progress to the island. In 1908, Guimarasnons were given the right to elect their municipal president. One great American left an indelible mark in the island, Douglas MacArthur, fresh from West Point as a Second Lieutenant at the age of 23, came to Iloilo as the head of the company of Corps of Engineers. They constructed roads and the Sto. Rosario Wharf, presently named as McArthur’s Wharf, which are still in use today.

Guimaras first gained status as a Sub province of Iloilo by virtue of RA 4667, which was enacted by Congress on June 18, 1966. Prior to 1966, the three municipalities: Jordan, Buenavista and Nueva Valencia comprising the island were part of the 2nd congressional district of Iloilo. Despite its apparent nearness to Iloilo City, Guimaras’ municipalities lagged behind in development.

Thus, in 18 June 1966, RA 4667 was passed creating the sub – province of Guimaras in the Province of Iloilo was passed. The sub – province was established to provide an apprenticeship for self government for the people and its leaders. Once this capacity is achieved, Guimaras is expected to graduate to a regular provincial status.

Then Nueva Valencia Vice Mayor Antonio Ortiz was appointed as the first chief executive of the sub – province. The title of the position was then Lt. Governor. Three years later, RA 5682 was passed changing the position title of Lt. Governor to Governor. Governor Ortiz continued to serve his provincemates until his death in 1984.

By then the country has been under martial law for about a dozen years. No democratic elections were held during the period, and no election was expected in the foreseeable days. Gov. Ortiz was succeeded by an appointee of Malacanang in the person of Mr. Leopoldo Locsin. There was hardly any activity towards Guimaras provincehood as intended by the RA which created the sub – province.

Then, in February of 1988, following a quick succession of events resulting from the lifting of martial rule, Dr. Catalino G. Nava assumed office as governor of the sub-province. It was the period of great changes. The 14-year military rule (martial law) was just lifted; we had a new president and a new constitution. With such a mandate, Dr. Nava immediately set forth to put in place his campaign promise that was to make Guimaras a full fledged and independent province.

Barely half a year in office, Gov. Nava was able to convince his colleagues of the necessity of creating an independent Province of Guimaras, and that a Resolution was passed by the League of Provinces supporting the move. A separate resolution of the same nature was handed in by the league of vice governors and vice mayors in July 1988, this time through the efforts of then vice governor Cesar Galila.

The Regional Development Council (RDC) through Resolution No. 14, s 1988, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Iloilo through Resolution No. 146 s. 1988, Provincial Development Council (PDC) Guimaras through Resolutions No. 3 and 10, s 1988, and Municipal Development Council (MDC) Resolutions (Jordan, Nueva Valencia and Buenavista).

But it took more than resolutions to get the movement to full throttle. Negotiations with the late Cong. Monfort were made to sponsor a bill in Congress. Similar efforts for a parallel move in the senate with the office Sen. Guingona were initiated. Then we got news that both chambers were soliciting inputs for a Local Government Code which was being framed. Representations were made with the offices of Rep. Herminio Aquino and Rep. Hilario de Pedro, as well as that of Senator Pimentel, then the chair of the Senate Committee on Local Governments.

Gov. Nava authorized Board member Bonilla to invite the members of the committee to have a dialogue with Guimarasnons. As a result, Senator Pimentel visited Guimaras and held a consultation at the Barangay Training Center. BM Bonilla also gave inputs on how Section 462 of the Local Government Code would be worded.

With the passage of the LGC, the task shifted to a campaign for a YES vote in the plebiscite to be conducted for Guimaras provincehood. Guimaras was then proclaimed as a regular and full-fledged province on May 22, 1992 after a plebiscite was conducted to ratify the approval of its conversion pursuant to Section 462 of RA 7160. Shortly after Guimaras acquired provincial status, President Fidel V. Ramos appointed Emily Relucio – Lopez as its first Provincial Governor.

In 1995, by virtue of RA 7896 and RA 7897, the municipalities of Sibunag and San Lorenzo were created respectively. The two new municipalities acquired their municipal status after May 8, 1995 plebiscite held simultaneously with the local election.

Natural Resources of Guimaras, Philippines

Protect the environment

It is sad but true that as of the year 2012 the rivers of the Philippines continue to be the #1 Sewer Systems of the Philippines.

Protect & Save the Rivers. Do not let your sewer drain into the river. Your community can be the first to initiate this project.
Build your riverbank protection with a built-in gutter system. Reforest within Ten Years - Guaranteed!

Let us plant more trees in every barangay in the entire Philippines. It does not make any difference if the barangay is urban, partially urban or rural; we need more trees. Trees will prevent erosion, provide oxygen, prevent green house effect, and even a place of business for the shade tree mechanic.

The Philippines is a tropical country and practically anything will grow. The DENR has the planting trees project that goes on every year. Lots of picture taking for the media. Planting trees one by one is the "human" way of doing it. This individual planting of trees is good if done to "line" the roads and highways with trees or along fences or property divisions, or if you have a plantation.

To reforest the nation of the Philippines we have to plant trees the "mother nature" way. Sow the seeds during the rainy season. Go deep into "bald" forests and plant trees by sowing seeds. If there's not enough volunteers to do this, use the military helicopters to fly over the designated areas and sow the seeds.

Guaranteed within a few years, The Philippines will be lush again. >>Read More

We are using our rivers as our sewer system. If you ask a Filipino, "Are the Filipinos a clean people?" The answer is an automatic, "Yes!". However, the Filipinos are suffering from the same disease or attitude as most people do, and that is the "NIMBY" disease or "NIMBY" attitude. (NIMBY) Not In My Back Yard. So it is OK to dump my garbage and sewer there. Not mine! Someone else will take care of it.

This attitude is killing our rivers. Your great-grandparents, grandparents or parents were once proud to tell the stories of how they enjoyed swimming in the river behind your house or nearby. However, you can't say the same or tell the same stories to your kids or grand kids. Why? Because your generation is killing the river.

We have so much water in the Philippines and yet very little to drink.

Instead of relying too much on Diesel fuel and Coal to generate the majority of Philippine's Electrical energy Supply, we can concentrate more on renewable and sustainable source of energy such as: Hydro Power, Solar Power, and Wind Power and thermal energy conversion. We have too many black outs.

It was built by the Spanish government in 1894 -1896 as part of the Master Plan for the lighting of the Maritime Coasts of the Philippine Archipelago. The plan was aimed at lighting the Philippine Seas and channels to guide ships in and through the most important sea channels to the ports of Manila, Iloilo, and Cebu. Known as Faro de Punta Luzaran, the lighthouse served as a navigational aid to the fishermen and sailors cruising Panay Gulf. While the original lighthouse is no longer operational a new one has been built by the Philippine Coast Guard.
This station is on Guimaras Island marking the southern entrance to Iloilo in Panay. The lighthouse, a 17.5 m (58 ft) octagonal cylindrical tower, was completed in 1896. It appears similar to the Cabo Bojeador and Cabo Engano lights. The entire light station is in ruins; the lantern is gone from the tower and the roof is gone from the 1-story stone keeper’s house.
At some time after 1920, the light was replaced by what the current list describes only as 38 ft (11.5m) hourglass-shaped metal tower. Painted white, focal plane 34 m (111 ft), white flash every 15 s. no lantern.
Number 12 lighthouse is listed in the 27 major Spanish Lighthouses of the Philippines (in the order listed by Faros Espanoles de Ultramar).

MacArthurs’s Wharf
Sto. Rosario, Buenavista, Guimaras

It is formerly known as “Buenavista Wharf”. It was built by Lt. Douglas MacArthur in 1903 while on duty with the US Corps of Engineers. It was near this place where MacArthur fresh from West Point Germany was ambushed by guerillas which barely missed his head and perhaps could have changed the course of history.
The pre-war era saw the developments of Sto. Rosario. A certain engineering brigade of America troops extended hand of channeling roads from Sto. Rosario to sprouting barangays up north-east of Buenavista like Ambulong (Salvacion), Calingao (New Poblacion), and Camp Jossman Headquarter (Supang).
The said engineering brigade was manned by Douglas MacArthur then 2nd lieutenant. They dug and raked mountains, dumped boulders of rocks and scraped hillsides. They eventually were able to develop a port and a road stretching to a mountain at the right side of Sto. Rosario linking it to Ambulong, Calingao and up to Punta Blanco (San Roque). Calingao would turn out to be the new seat of the municipality of Buenavista after World War II.
The existence of the roads and port was reason enough for houses to line up along the side of the road leading to the port (Punta Pantalan) and the population to grow ten folds. Even people from other barangays migrated to Sto. Rosario. Surely, the presence of American troops was a sight to behold and to enjoy. A new lifestyle was emerging in Sto. Rosario. Barter trade with American ships in the Iloilo straight is very busy and alive. The proximity of the place to Iloilo City was a come-on to migrants. People could easily sail by a paraw back and forth to the city and to Sto. Rosario and be able to savor the excitement of city life. They could watch movies in a theater, eat in a restaurant; and the prospects of the ports, that of Sto. Rosario and Parola and the other side; are promises of a greener pasture.

Punta Blanco Traget Range (Ruins)
San Roque, Buenavista, Guimaras

During the American regime, in the leadership of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, there was a shooting range was constructed. It was named Punta Blanco by Douglas Mc Arthur; it was composed of three trails, one in Tinadtaran, in Nazaret and in the Supang located in Camp Jossman. The center of Punta Blanco is located in Mount Sulangon. The construction of Punta Blanco shooting range was started in 1909. They used it as their target range when they were free. Before they went to the said place, they gave a signal or warning to the people of the commencement of their activities. No one knows about the secret of Punta Blanco except Mr. Fernandez who was one of the caretakers of the place. Punta Blanco is estimated at 4000 square meters.

MacArthur / Camp Jossman Headquarters (Ruins)
Supang, Buenavista

In 1901-1912 the Americans captured Barangay Supang. A US reservation camp known as Camp Jossman was established. It was composed of regiment of American soldiers and two (2) battalions of the Philippine Scouts. They were responsible for the construction of Sto. Rosario Wharf, Gen. Douglas MacArthur then fresh from US Military School made Supang as their headquarters. Many recreation centers were established in this place. However, in 1912, an order from the US high command came to vacate Camp Jossman and return to the US; all the structures then that were established during the stay of the American soldiers were all demolished. It is now being used by Water District of Buenavista as water reservoir.

Good Shepherd’s Fold Academy
Salvacion, Buenavista, Guimaras

July 8, 1946, the vision to establish a home for orphaned and destitute children had come. Philip Irabon, with the financial assistance from Fil-Chinese Mr. Edward Tan, organized the Good Shepherd’s Fold, Inc. A farmland was bought from the Adventist Mission in Buenavista, Guimaras where the Fold now stands. It offers elementary, secondary, vocational training, practical arts, & science courses.

Roca Encantada
San Miguel, Buenavista, Guimaras

The National Historical Institute declared it as a historical house on August 14, 2002. This summerhouse was already renovated and reclaimed for easy access to the main land.

Kaya Iloilo sweeps Group B in Copa '21

MANILA – Kaya Iloilo pipped Mendiola with a 6-0 beating on Wednesday night to complete a sweep of Group B action in the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona.

A Jovin Bedic brace in the first half set the tone for the inaugural tournament champ even as the club netted three goals in each of the two halves to seal the top seed in its group ahead of the semifinals next week.

Bedic capitalized on an erroneous Mendiola attempt to keep the ball out of his reach and quickly raced inside the penalty box to open the scoring for Kaya Iloilo in the 11th minute.
