A FORMER village official was killed in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Friday, July 26.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in the village of La Union, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez identified the victim as Rey Vallecer Josue, 58, the former village chief of La Union, Labason.

She said Josue had a conversation with his brother, Edwin, in a cottage when the two men arrived and looked for his wife, Analiza, the incumbent village chief of La Union.

Galvez said the men shot Josue when he "answered and allowed them to enter the gate."

She said the victim ran but the gunmen chased and finished him off. The gunmen then fled toward the village of Lawagan, Labason aboard a motorcycle.

Galvez said Josue was rushed to the Labason District Hospital but died while under medical treatment.
