PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- A forum on permissible food and drinks in traditional Islamic law, or 'halal', will be held in this city on January 22.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-MIMAROPA Regional Director Ma. Josefina Abilay made the announcement at a gathering at the Palawan State University (PSU) Monday afternoon.
“This forum is the first of its kind here in Palawan,” she said, adding the forum here would be beneficial as there is already a significant number of Muslim population in the whole province.
“Marami na ang mga kababayan nating Muslim dito sa Palawan, kaya mag-Halal forum tayo dito (We have a lot of Muslims here in Palawan so let’s have a Halal forum here),” Abilay said.
The participants in the forum, she said, could come from the food processing sector and the restaurants operating in the city.
“This is a preparation, para itong mga restaurant owners and food processing businesses, sila yung mag-cater ng needs ng mga Muslim, by preparing Halal-certified food (… so that these restaurant owners and food processing businesses can cater to the needs of Muslims.),” Abilay further said.
Resource speakers in the event are DOST-12 Regional Director Dr. Zenaida P. Hadji Raof Laidan and a Malaysian halal expert.
