DOH: 2016 firecracker-related injuries in Region 9 lesser by one case

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 6 (PNA) -- The Department of Health (DOH) announced that the cases of firecracker-related injuries dropped by one case in 2016 compared to the previous year here in Region 9.

The DOH yearly monitors firecracker-related injuries from December 21 to January 5.

Maxell Bermas, DOH Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) chief, on Friday said they have recorded 11 firecracker-related injuries from December 21, 2016 to January 5, 2017.

Bermas said that seven of the 11 cases were registered in Zamboanga del Norte, two in Zamboanga del Sur, and one each in Zamboanga Sibugay and Isabela City.

The firecrackers responsible for the injuries included the following: piccolo (3); triangle (3); kwitis (2); bamboo cannon (2); and pla-pla (1).

Last year, the DOH regional office had recorded 12 cases of firecracker-related injuries from December 21, 2015 to January 5, 2016.
