2 Riders Killed in Shootout with Molave Cops

The desk officer on duty in Molave MPS received a text message from a concerned citizen on October 14, 2016 at about 6:38 PM regarding the presence of two motorcycles travelling back and forth seemingly conducting a surveillance near a chapel in Brgy. Sudlon.

Two teams from said police station were dispatched to Brgy. Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur to conduct a counter-strike operation. One of the teams flagged down one of the motorcycles which had been described in the report. When the team accosted the riders, the riders disembarked from their vehicle and fired shots towards the responding police officers. This led to a gun battle that resulted in the killing of the two suspects, while no one from the side of the PNP team was harmed. The driver was identified as Renato Villanueva, 35, resident of Tulay Buhangin, Miligan, Molave, while the back rider was identified as Gecrie S. Canlom, 39, a barangay kagawad residing in Brgy. Miligan, Molave municipality.

A SOCO from the Provincial Crime Laboratory Office in Camp Abelon, Pagadian City processed the crime scene. They were able to recover from the possession of the two riders two revolver pistols and cash amounting to Php 9,759.00 and some personal belongings.
