ZAMBOANGA CITY (PNA) – The Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) has provided financial assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) stranded in Saudi Arabia.

Khalil Isser Lorena, OWWA regional family welfare officer told the Philippines News Agency that the OWWA will give PHP20,000 (1,599 Rial) to the affected OFWs at the jobsite and PHP20,000 to repatriated workers.

Lorena said that PHP6,000 is also given to the families of each of the affected OFWs.

Lorena said the financial assistance is given through the Relief Assistance Program (RAP), which is the crisis intervention program of OWWA.

Hundreds of OFWs are stranded in Saudi Arabia as the companies they were employed with have shut down due to financial difficulties.

He said they included office personnel and workers of different companies in Saudi Arabia.

He said they have provided financial assistance to 14 families of OFWs and have repatriated five displaced OFWs who are from Region 9.

Of the 14 OFW families, 12 are from this city while the remaining two families are from Pagadian City.

Lorena said the RAP is aimed to enable the affected OFWs and their families cope with the economic and social adjustments brought about by the loss of job.
