The fraternity’s original beginnings date back to a group of students who desired to bring Moslems and Christians together into a bond of loyalty, service and brotherhood. It was founded on July 1, 1967 in the [[Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Philippines|Islamic City of Marawi]] and later established its autonomous chapters at various schools in the City. It had an estimated 1,500 members as of 1990, which composed of Muslim and Christian initiates in the greater areas of [[Cotabato Province, Philippines|North Cotabato]] and [[Lanao del Sur Province, Philippines|Lanao del Sur]]. Most prominent of these were its initiates from UTC and ILS of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindanao_State_University Mindanao State University] in [[Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Philippines|Marawi City]] and its members from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_University_(Philippines) Notre Dame University] in [[Cotabato City, Philippines|Cotabato City]]. The Grand Alumni Association of Upsilon Sigma Beta (a.k.a. The Order of Upsibetans) was formed to act as a body to establish and supervise its collegiate chapters in the future. Article II of the the Order of Upsibetan’s Constitution and Bylaws states that the Association’s purpose “shall be to create and maintain strong ties between the Fraternity’s alumni and its undergraduate initiates through chapter development, public relations, projects, honors, and awards”.
