CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Misamis Oriental is poised to revolutionize its agricultural sector through a strategic partnership with the Indonesian government, focusing on the implementation of cutting-edge agricultural technologies.
Provincial Board Member Rey Buhisan announced on Thursday that a delegation of Indonesian agricultural experts is scheduled to visit Misamis Oriental in the upcoming quarter. Their mission is to conduct a thorough inspection of various designated demonstration farms across the province.
Key areas selected for this pilot project include agricultural lands in Gingoog and El Salvador cities, along with farms in the municipalities of Magsaysay, Balingasag, Claveria, Alubijid, Gitagum, and Lugait. In Balingasag alone, an expansive 25-hectare site has been earmarked for a development strategy focused on inclusive growth. The strategy aims to ensure that the produce from these farms is distributed exclusively within the province’s 23 towns and two cities, as outlined by Buhisan, who also heads the Committee on Agriculture at the provincial board.
This collaboration is part of a broader initiative spearheaded by Governor Peter Unabia, aiming to bolster the agricultural sector of Misamis Oriental and secure food supply for its residents. In alignment with this goal, last year, the provincial government entered into an agreement with Indonesia, reflecting Governor Unabia’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity. Complementing this initiative, a partnership was forged with the First Community Cooperative to establish a rice processing facility, a step towards embracing new, Indonesia-inspired agricultural technologies.
