President Rodrigo Roa Duterte promotes dynasties.
We all know that the Philippine constitution needs reform. But that is not the #1 problem of the Philippines. We need reforms, but who are these people in government that will be pushing for these reforms? Most of them are the corrupt politicians associated with the oligarchs and fixed political dynasties.
How do we eliminate these old mongrels who control the Philippines. Simple!! Pass the Anti-Dynasty law.
Last March 21, 2018: Committee report no. 367 in conjunction with senate bill no. 1765 was presented to Pres. Duterte for approval. This is the anti-dynasty law. Why is Duterte ignoring Senate Bill No. 1765. and he simply shrugged at this and mentioned that it will be included in the “NEW” constitution. Who is he FOOLING? Anti-dynasty was mentioned in the 1987 constitution: “ARTICLE II – Section 26: The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law.” This is the opportunity to define it under law.
So what happened in the Philippines during the May 14, 2018 (barangay election) and in the May 13, 2019 national elections? Dynasties prevailed. In many barangays, municipalities, cities, and provinces; brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, children, husbands, wives and cousins were elected into office. Then there is the trickle down effect since these officials also “appoint” positions of power. So they appoint relatives. Nepotism prevailed. So the problem is not only political dynasty. It is also nepotism in public offices.
In Davao City where Pres. Duterte was the mayor and where his family has a political dynasty the following were elected into office for the 2019-2022 term:
- Mayor of Davao City: Sara “Inday Sara” Zimmerman Duterte Carpio – Daughter of President Duterte
- Vice-Mayor of Davao City: Sebastian Z. Duterte – Son of President Duterte
- Congressman for the 1st District of Davao City: Paolo “Pulong” Duterte – Son of Pres. Duterte
Duterte refuses to discuss the Anti-Dynasty law because his family will be one of the violators. Duterte relies so much on the power of Dynasties to get what he wants. Duterte does not want to lose control. He relies on the power of the dynasties.
There is so much talk about anti-political dynasty in the Philippines, but that’s all it is, just all talk.
