SURIGAO CITY, Philippines – At least 400 mining advocates coming from various places in six regions in Mindanao have expressed their support in the government’s campaign to preserve the environment, protect the forests and promote global warming and climate change mitigation program.
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, May 11 (PIA) -- The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in Surigao del Sur bared its accomplishment in a presentation called “A Gift For Surigaonons.

These mining advocates also pledged to help the government’s “greening” program and other environmental projects that will benefit not only to this generation but also to the coming generation.
Dr. Romeo De los Reyes, provincial health officer, presented the office's feat recently and pointed out their objectives in the near future through “facilitated activities”.

In an interview at his regional office here, Regional Director Alilo C. Ensomo, Jr. of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-13 (MGB-13), said the mining advocates met here recently and mapped out several strategies in an effort to help the government’s responsible mining program, environment preservation and forest protection.
He particularly cited the reproductive health care program, which has a total grant of P7,007,412 million for Calendar Year 2012 and the P8 million per year for the next four years from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the approved 2012 Annual Operations Plan (AOP), the Agencia Española de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarollo (AECID) Phase III P18 million grant, and the Health Rationalization Plan together with the approved infrastructure for Rural Health Units (RHUs) which will be implemented in 2013.

The MGB officials in Mindanao acknowledged their effort, saying this move “would help the agency and enjoined them to collaborate with the agency in monitoring the mining activities in Mindanao, particularly the Caraga region where a number of mining companies are currently operating, especially in the provinces of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.
De los Reyes also stressed that all proposed health infrastructures and facilities with a total cost of P192.9 million programmed until said period will have to be in place.

Under the Aquino administration, mining continues to be one of the economic drivers of the government with the Caraga region set to become the capital of the mining industry.

Wars of ancient history were about possessions, territory, power, control, family, betrayal, lover's quarrel, politics and sometimes religion.

But we are in the Modern era and supposedly more educated and enlightened .

Think about this. Don't just brush off these questions.

  • Why is RELIGION still involved in WARS? Isn't religion supposed to be about PEACE?
  • Ask yourself; What religion always campaign to have its religious laws be accepted as government laws, always involved in wars and consistently causing WARS, yet insists that it's a religion of peace?

WHY??

There are only two kinds of people who teach tolerance:
  1. The Bullies. They want you to tolerate them so they can continue to maliciously deprive you. Do not believe these bullies teaching tolerance, saying that it’s the path to prevent hatred and prejudice.
  2. The victims who are waiting for the right moment to retaliate. They can’t win yet, so they tolerate.

DESCRIPTION OF SURIGAO DEL SUR

One brochure describes Surigao del Sur as a "kaleidoscope of superlatives…with… perfectly balanced natural resources and breathtaking scenery."

Hilly ranges (about 46% of the province’s land area) fall from Diwata Mountain to an irregular coastline with bays at Lanuza, Lianga, and Bislig. Mountains and highlands account for 16%, uplands for 17%, and lowlands for 21%. Not far offshore lies the "Philippine Deep," one of the world’s deepest ocean trenches at 10,057 m. Cave formations and waterfalls dot the landscape.

The northeast trade winds prevail almost year-round with stronger winds blowing during the season when rains are heavier, from November to January. Although still outside the typhoon belt, typhoons have historically strayed to visit once every two or three decades.

HISTORY OF SURIGAO DEL SUR

Old folks still like to recount how some Visayan fishermen, forced by strong currents in what is now known as Surigao Strait, sought refuge in one of the huts somewhere in the province. The Mamanwas thought the fishermen wanted to occupy the hut by force or agaw. This term was given the prefix "suri" by an immigrant. Combined together, the word Suri-Agaw was formed. In time, it was shortened to Surigao. Still, another version recounts that before the Spaniards came, Surigao del Sur was created as the 56th Philippine province on June 29, 1960 by virtue of R. A. No. 2786 and was formally separated from its mother province, Surigao del Norte, on September 18, 1960.

Before the Spaniards came, the original inhabitants of the province were the Mamanwas and Manobos. Later, our Malay brothers from the Visayas came to cattle with the natives. It was with the arrival of the immigrants that the province acquired its name from one of the natives. Saliagao who lived near the mouth of the river. This name Saliagao was later pronounced Surigao by the inhabitants. It is also said that long ago, some Visayan fisherman forced by the strong current of the Surigao strait, sought refuge in one of the huts somewhere in the province. The Mamanwas who thought that these fishermen wanted to occupy the hut by force said "agaw", the term which was later given a prefix "Suri" by an immigrant.

Natural Resources of Surigao del Sur, Philippines

Protect the environment

It is sad but true that as of the year 2012 the rivers of the Philippines continue to be the #1 Sewer Systems of the Philippines.

Protect & Save the Rivers. Do not let your sewer drain into the river. Your community can be the first to initiate this project.
Build your riverbank protection with a built-in gutter system. Reforest within Ten Years - Guaranteed!

Let us plant more trees in every barangay in the entire Philippines. It does not make any difference if the barangay is urban, partially urban or rural; we need more trees. Trees will prevent erosion, provide oxygen, prevent green house effect, and even a place of business for the shade tree mechanic.

The Philippines is a tropical country and practically anything will grow. The DENR has the planting trees project that goes on every year. Lots of picture taking for the media. Planting trees one by one is the "human" way of doing it. This individual planting of trees is good if done to "line" the roads and highways with trees or along fences or property divisions, or if you have a plantation.

To reforest the nation of the Philippines we have to plant trees the "mother nature" way. Sow the seeds during the rainy season. Go deep into "bald" forests and plant trees by sowing seeds. If there's not enough volunteers to do this, use the military helicopters to fly over the designated areas and sow the seeds.

Guaranteed within a few years, The Philippines will be lush again. >>Read More

We are using our rivers as our sewer system. If you ask a Filipino, "Are the Filipinos a clean people?" The answer is an automatic, "Yes!". However, the Filipinos are suffering from the same disease or attitude as most people do, and that is the "NIMBY" disease or "NIMBY" attitude. (NIMBY) Not In My Back Yard. So it is OK to dump my garbage and sewer there. Not mine! Someone else will take care of it.

This attitude is killing our rivers. Your great-grandparents, grandparents or parents were once proud to tell the stories of how they enjoyed swimming in the river behind your house or nearby. However, you can't say the same or tell the same stories to your kids or grand kids. Why? Because your generation is killing the river.

We have so much water in the Philippines and yet very little to drink.

Instead of relying too much on Diesel fuel and Coal to generate the majority of Philippine's Electrical energy Supply, we can concentrate more on renewable and sustainable source of energy such as: Hydro Power, Solar Power, and Wind Power and thermal energy conversion. We have too many black outs.

Kaya Iloilo sweeps Group B in Copa '21

MANILA – Kaya Iloilo pipped Mendiola with a 6-0 beating on Wednesday night to complete a sweep of Group B action in the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona.

A Jovin Bedic brace in the first half set the tone for the inaugural tournament champ even as the club netted three goals in each of the two halves to seal the top seed in its group ahead of the semifinals next week.

Bedic capitalized on an erroneous Mendiola attempt to keep the ball out of his reach and quickly raced inside the penalty box to open the scoring for Kaya Iloilo in the 11th minute.
