Boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao was one of the big name celebrities who showed up at the Hollywood premiere of GMA Films' horror movie "The Road," directed by Yam Laranas and starring Rhian Ramos and Marvin Agustin.
In a report on GMA News' "24 Oras" newscast, Pacquiao said: “It’s a good experience to be here and I’m supporting my friend Rhian and I love it."
Also at the premiere were the Kapuso stars who were part of the movie — Agustin, Ramos, Alden Richards, and Derrick Monasterio.
The movie, about a ghostly encounter on a deserted road in the woods, premiered in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (Thursday morning in Manila).
In the "24 Oras" report, Ramos said: “The thing about all of the premieres that I go to, I remember and cherish them of course, in my heart. This though feels like it’s something that’s going to go down in history, as a Filipino.”
Agustin, on the other hand, said, “This is the first time, first ever Filipino film that will be shown commercially here in the States so we're very happy, we're very proud, I’m very proud to be part of this film.”
"The Road" is set in a supernatural universe. The story begins in 2008 when three teenagers disappear at night on a deserted road.
Their disappearance triggers a reinvestigation of a 12-year-old murder that happened on the same road. As the investigation grows deeper, gruesome stories of abduction and murders surface.
According to report of the news site the New York Times, "the dead are unquiet and the living are terrified in “The Road,” a powerfully atmospheric blend of ghostly encounters, horrific situations and missing-persons mysteries.
"As the film crawls backward in time and deep into haunted real estate and family sickness, the color palette becomes more dense and the themes more explicit," the report said.
"Though not without flaws — the wrap-up is a little rocky — this grisly tale earns its scares the old-fashioned way: by making our spines crawl instead of our stomachs churn," it added.
