HISTORY OF PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB
by: Flordelina B. Utleg, February 15, 2012
Paraiso ti Caribquib is situated in Sitio Daramuangan of Caribquib, Banna, Ilocos Norte.  It is three kilometers (3 km) away west from the National Highway.
Caribquib is the Eighteenth barangay of Banna, Ilocos Norte among the Twenty (20) barangays.  It is located at the northern part of the town proper and first barangay to be reached when you come from Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
There are two seasons in Caribquib.  The dry season which starts on October to May and the rainy season starts on June to September but there is now an unpredictable weather due to climate change.
Caribquib has four (4) sitios/purok with a total household of 201 with a total population of  967.  SARANAY – 229; SALACNIB – 204; SADIRI – 287 and TIMPUYOG – 247.  As per record of the Provincial Comelec, October 1, 2010, there are 629 registered voters Presidential election last May, 2010.
The southwestern part of Caribquib proper is hilly and mountainous where the Paraiso is situated.  The mountain is the boundary of Batac City and Banna.  The soil has a brick-red color.  There are different kinds of trees like narra tree, duhat, ipil-ipil, guava, tamarind, acacia, mango ghmelina, pine trees, bulala, etc. and there are many vines.
Long, long time ago, the place of Paraiso was still a forest with big trees and very shrubby land.  There was a way from the National Highway going to Daramuangan and it was good only for the people at that time.  The people brought their animals and products to sell in Batac as well as to buy their needs by passing through the mountain.  As time goes by, the population of that place became higher and higher.  Due to this, some of the people did the kaingin or they cut some trees that were near to their houses for their fire woods as well as to build their houses.
There is water falls from the mountain which is Two hundred fifty (250) meters away from the dam.  The dam was built in 1986 through the help of the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Carlito N.  Abadilla.
When Hon. Adonis B. Manuel was still young, he sometimes went to see the reservoir. He loves to see the water stream.
When he was elected as Kagawad in Caribquib, the more he loves to go to Sitio Daramuangan and stayed under the big trees.  He heard birds singing, whistling sounds coming from the leaves of big trees.  Every time he went there, he saw many children taking a bath, they swam and sliding in the dam.  He enjoyed watching them with a smile.
In the morning of September 29, 2002 while he was sitting under the tree and watching the children who were very happy having their competition in slipping and sliding in the dam as fast as they can, he discovered that the dam gives fun and happiness.
When Hon. Adonis B. Manuel was elected as Barangay Chairman in 2007, he continued to go to the dam because there are so many shaded trees that make the place quite cold due to the fresh air.  While he was sitting and enjoyed watching the children playing in the dam, there was a something that came to his mind.  He invoked himself to become a nature lover. He loved to go there to freshen and sharpen his mind. His mind traveled and saw beautiful things. His mind was wandering if how would be the place become a Paradise that makes people relax and enjoy.  He became a great dreamer.  He dreamt that the place will be one of the tourist spots of the world to be visited.  He conceptualized what to do with the place.  To make his dreams come true with the help of his barangay officials and the community as well, he called a barangay session.  There was a One hundred percent (100%) attendance of the barangay officials of Caribquib.  During the meeting, he told and informed them about his dreams and plans about the place.  He let them suggest if what will be the best name.  Some of the members suggested “SHOWER”, “SAWANG NI NOE”,  and “PARAISO TI CARIBQUIB”. They also suggested “Paraiso ni Adonis” because they knew really that HON. ADONIS B. MANUEL was the one who discovered the place.  They divided the house and they had chosen “Paraiso ti Caribquib” as the name.  Everybody suggested for the improvement of the area to make it clean, attractive, awesome, conducive and safe place for the barangay residents as well as tourists and excursionists.  They also agreed that they will render selfless service for the improvement of the venue to generate income for improvement purposes and in putting up facilities.
After the meeting, the group went to the place and started to clean.  They removed everything which made the place untidy.  Everybody was very cooperative.
When Hon. Manuel noticed that the place is small, they made a resolution requesting a part of the mountain from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).  The request was granted and HON. JUAN DELOS REYES awarded the One hundred hectares (100) to the people of Caribquib through HON. ADONIS B. MANUEL on APRIL 15, 2010.
A Thanksgiving Mass was held on December 20, 2009 and started at 7:40 in the morning by ARC BISHOP SERGIO LASAM UTLEG.
They put up cottages and made the first Zipline in Ilocos Norte followed by the Hanging Bridge, Grotto of Virgin Mary, Superman, Cage of Philippne Serpent Eagles and Native orchid’s net.
Paraiso is now on its way for development through the help of the Municipal officials headed by the Mayor, HON. CARLITO N. ABADILLA and Vice-Mayor, HON. CARLITO A. ABADILLA II.
The first school who help them in beautifying the place like planting fruit bearing and forest trees, flowering plants and establishing the barangay nursery is the College of Teacher Education of Northwestern University headed by the Community Extension Coordinator, PROF. FLORDELINA B. UTLEG.
Paraiso ti Caribquib is very conducive for unwinding, fun and relaxation.
