CEBU CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) has a new regional director.

Lawyer Johnson Cañete, who previously served as DOLE-6 (Western Visayas) regional chief, has replaced Atty. Alvin Villamor as DOLE-7 regional director effective August 9.

Cañete said Monday Villamor has been reassigned to head the DOLE office in the Bicol Region or DOLE-5.

“I’ve been away from DOLE-7 for 14 years and this time, I’m so happy to be back and for the warm welcome I received from everyone,” said the newly-installed true-blue Cebuano DOLE-7 head, who hails from Minglanilla, Cebu.

Cañete used to be a DOLE-7 mediator-arbiter and OIC-assistant regional director before he was appointed assistant regional director of DOLE-6.

He was later promoted to head the DOLE-National Capital Region office before going back to Western Visayas as DOLE-6 regional director.

During a brief program on Monday, Cañete urged all DOLE-7 personnel to start the week with enthusiasm and a smile while underscoring the significance of going beyond what is expected of them.

“Today, Region 7 will start with a clean slate. All of us must be able to start anew, leaving behind what was marked with negativity. I want to get to know everyone from a personal standpoint – seeing, meeting, and listening to them – as they individually dispose and carry out assigned tasks and responsibilities,” Cañete said.
