It was called “Katugian” which means a place abounding in “Tugue” an edible root crop. The distance between Cabanatuan City and Katugian was critical during the early phase of its development although it was only 15 km. The cura párroco at that time recommended to the Spanish administrators a separate and independent administration of Katugian. By a royal decree issued on November 12, 1852, the plan making Katugian a town was approved. There was no formal inauguration of the new town in accordance with the royal decree. However, the Augustian cura párroco of Cabanatuan, Fr. MANILA, Philippines — The global market, including the Philippines, staged an unprecedented rally Wednesday following a surge on Wall Street on the back of the assurance by the United States (US) Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that interest rates will be kept super low for the next two years.

Calmed by this declaration, which fueled the Dow Jones industrial average to soar by more than 429 points, its 10th highest point gain in history and the biggest since March 2009, stock market indices elsewhere in the world rebounded with the Philippine bourse going back to the positive territory after a three-day consecutive drop, rising by 133.11 points to 4,290.14 and the peso appreciating by 14.6 centavos to P42.473 to a dollar. ..........Full Story »

MANILA – Kaya Iloilo pipped Mendiola with a 6-0 beating on Wednesday night to complete a sweep of Group B action in the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona.

A Jovin Bedic brace in the first half set the tone for the inaugural tournament champ even as the club netted three goals in each of the two halves to seal the top seed in its group ahead of the semifinals next week.

Bedic capitalized on an erroneous Mendiola attempt to keep the ball out of his reach and quickly raced inside the penalty box to open the scoring for Kaya Iloilo in the 11th minute.
