ISLANDS OF ZAMBOANGA CITY

In addition to the main land territory of Zamboanga City, which encompasses 1,681 kilometers ( 645 square mile ), there are over 28 islands that are part of its principality, some of them not yet named.  The most popular of these islands is the Great Santa Cruz Island, and most deservedly so.  Its tantalizingly beautiful scenery encompasses the rare "pink sand" ( a coloration effect of white sand mixed with red coral sand ), crystal clear blue water, and the symphony of varied living corals, abundant colorful tropical sea life, and island vegetation.  It is truly a wonderland.

We at Zamboanga.com, however, aim to present to you the rest of the other beautiful islands that make up the remainder of the City of Zamboanga.  As usual, we would like your participation in providing us with photographs, descriptions, and your personal experiences.  Help us present this to the rest of the world.  If you can help, please contact us at:  webmaster@zamboanga.com.

Scuba Diving Qualities:  Excellent.  Home of the fabled "pinkish sand," it is a living coral island whose variety of corals and sea life rivals any of the more popular sites around the world.  Over half of the world's known sea shell varieties come from the tremendously rich waters of Sulu Sea, of which the twin Santa Cruz Islands are a part of, but ideally located in the sheltered waters of Basilan Straight, across from downtown Zamboanga City.  Its crystal clear water is perfect for your scuba diving and under water photography requirements.  Due to the guerilla unrest in the region, this area of the world remains an undiscovered haven, and is best approached with caution.  The rewards are serendipitous.
