I came across this website accidentally. I feel nostalgic about the account of Don Morales about his home in Tugbungan.
Actually, our family is among the pioneers in that area of Tugbungan. The Mendozas and the Arquizas, of course, were there first. We lived on top of the hill which people then called "Torre". Overlooking, would be the Plainview Subdivision.
The Tugbungan Loop was not existing then until later, my father, Joaquin Ledesma and his friends like Mayor Vinnie Atilano ( I think he was councilor then), Mr. Agripino Lorenzo who became Barrio Captain later, Atty Valmonte ( I think Director of BIR), the Iturraldes, and many others who owned properties in the area constructed a road that connected Tugbungan and Talon-Talon. this road was called Tugbungan Loop to differentiate it from the other Talon-Talon Loop which connects the two barrios near the Tetuan side of the barangay.
I also share similar childhood experience as Don who has expressed it so well. I will never forget the Tilapias and Curays, the floods, the Carabaos and the Herons, and yes, the bermuda grass, the Sampaloc and the Camanchille.
Later on, these would somehow change with the mushrooming of the "Bularan". Yet, I would like to think that it has remained a very friendly neighborhood.
I now live in Manila so I wouldn't really know for sure how it is to live in Tugbungan at this time. The last time I was there, there were now commercial establishments there including the Chimang's restaurant owned by the Saavedras, Mini-Marts, Gift shops, and even hardwares.
Eddie Saavedra who was my classmate in Ateneo is now Barangay Chairman. My nephew, Richie Puno, is a Barangay Councilor.
